Jade
(Green Point)
No cover - nice balcony. Dress code - on the fancier side of things if you want to compete with the dolled up South African girls. (As one girl told me - we South African girls like our dresses) Good on Thursdays for top 40. Fridays for 80s. Saturdays for a mix.
Vaudeville - Fez
(City Center)
High cover -R100. But if you email for the guest list ahead of time (ask for the email of their manager at some point) or just insist that you did email the manager to be on it you can usually get in free of charge. (Being a girl helps) House music. Explore the venue, super cool decor.
Hemisphere
(City Center)
High cover - R60. Super smokey (disclaimer: Never expect to go into a club in Cape Town and come out smelling like anything but smoke). Nice view, not that you'll see much of it through the smoke and crowds of people. Speak to the bouncer, Mike, if you have a chance to get into the club again for free the next time. He's a nice guy, too bad I had no urge to go back.
Chrome
(City Center - off Long Street)
Rand a Brand Wednesdays. If you are a binge drinking college student and you've just arrived in Cape Town - go for it. Call or text to be put on the guest list. If you've been in CApe Town for a decent amount of time and are no longer accustomed to shit liquor then I suggest you spare yourself the nasty hangover the next day will bring you.
Chevelle
(Uncertain)
Supposedly the up and coming club in Cape Town. Depressingly empty the day I was there. Didn't see much of the decor except... watch out for the step every time you walk out of the lady's room.
Buena Vista Social Club
(Green Point)
Across from Jade - go on Sundays for salsa night! A fun and clean way to meet people or bond with new friends!
Kinky Afro
(Random)
Cover R80. A local party that happens every few weeks (once a month I believe). Interesting to catch if you can. Held in the CTICC. South African music and a mostly coloured crowd. Pregame beforehand - bar lines are ridiculous!
Dizzy's
(Camps Bay)
Unpretentious club that plays old school hip hop. Only place I've seen a dance circle open up - loved it.
Bronx
(Green Point)
Fabulous! Don't remember much of it (World Cup final night - what can I say) but its one of the few places open on a Sunday night. Also, easiest place to start a conversation "gay or straight?".
Knoxville
(Kloof)
Haven't been, but ladies hit it up on Ladies Night Wednesday!
